If you're on the bustling streets of Insadong in Seoul, a visit to Jidaebang café is a must. Tucked away just a flight of stairs above the vibrant shopping scene, this charming spot offers a welcome respite for weary shoppers and curious travelers alike.

As you step inside, you'll find yourself enveloped in an ambiance that balances tradition with comfort. The café's interior exudes a serene charm, adorned with books and a history of visitors who have left their marks over decades. The ceiling may show the wear of time, but each imperfection adds to its character, making it feel like a cozy refuge from the lively street below.

Jidaebang specializes in a selection of traditional Korean teas served with finesse. Reviews from delighted customers highlight the meticulous preparation process, particularly their green tea, which arrives in an intricate set of components that invite a mindful moment of tea-making. Guests like Tijmen de Haan have described how the attentive staff elegantly guide you through the steps of creating the perfect brew, turning a drink into an experience. The subtle flavors of the tea linger on your palate, enveloping you in calm.

For those with a sweet tooth, Jidaebang offers delightful traditional snacks that complement their beverages beautifully. However, some guests, like Coco Cao, found the desserts to be a tad too sweet, which is something to keep in mind if you're more inclined towards savory delights. It's refreshingly personal; whether you're here to indulge in the sweets or to sip on a perfectly brewed brew, there's something for everyone.

Another layer of allure lies in the café's unique environment. Patrons appreciate the peaceful setting that encourages not just relaxation but connections with others. A popular review described it as a fantastic place to unwind after a day spent exploring the nearby shops and streets, adding a touch of tradition to the modern hustle and bustle of Seoul.

A bit too sweet for me but I’m admittedly the opposite to having sweet tooth. Good ambience and good seats semi open beside street to people watch. And I guess good dessert too if sweet stuff is your thing

Ultra peaceful break from the shopping street below. After walking up the stairs to 2F, we were greeted by a delicate man who told us to sit anywhere we liked and handed us a menu. I ordered the green tea, which came as 6 parts that needed a specific order of operations to prepare. Luckily, the gentleman explained the procedure. The tea was deliciously subtle. I would highly recommend stopping here for a peaceful cup of traditional tea.

Pretty classic, a bit older and a lot of books where people and tourists have added their names and signatures for years back (to at least the 90s, maybe further). The ceiling looks like it's had a bit of trouble, but the decor is older and we had a gent come by and show us how to serve and prepare the tea, the traditional snacks (date and others) and relaxed without being rushed - saw someone working on a laptop, business meeting and more here so people seem to be able to work and enjoy their time here. They do take credit card, too. If you can't read the menu on the round bamboo log that they give you, there's a regular menu, too.

A very interesting and lovely cafe experience in an old style Korean building. A great place to unwind. The traditional teas seem very well made and flavoured, with interesting and tasty snacks.

My first time here and it’s been a great experience. The tea is nice and flavoring. A good place to be here after shopping around.

Our favorite tea place Insadong. We bring all our guests here. They have a wonderful old world vibe and traditional cold and hot teas and desserts. They have an English menu with photos which is helpful! The lotus flower tea is a visual sight to behold and serves a big group! My elementary aged son loves the cold persimmon and cinnamon punch! I love their sikhye - the traditional sweet rice punch which is not overly sweet.
